HANGIN' BY THE POOL

It's still very very hot in Abu Dhabi and Jodie and Dave take the kids to the pool to cool down some evenings.  Here they are just checking things out.

They will be 3 months old on the 27th of November.  14.4 and 14.8 pounds.  Happy,  and apparently very healthy.

What a life!!

BLUE JAY PROOF BIRD FEEDER

We feed the birds in the winter and for the past few years we have had a flock of Blue Jays that just take over one of the feeders.  They can clean out a larger feeder in a few hours and scare all the smaller birds away - including my woodpeckers.  So Rejean decided that he would build a Blue Jay proof bird feeder and here it is.  There are 14 perches for the smaller birds that fly back and forth from the bird feeder to the trees all day long and there is no tray in the bottom that the Jays used to hang onto and get at the seeds.    I will not put out the suet for the woodpecker until the Jays have given up and moved on to another area.  Which I hope will far far away from here.

I'M RESPONSIBLE I GUESS

I got a new Stone that just says it all "Just Say Snow" and since I got it home that is all it had done, except for yesterday when it started to rain.  But it is supposed to get colder so I am sure we will be seeing the white stuff again.  All winter long…

WINDSOR'S BIG STORM 1965

This is a picture of my old neighbourhood on Windermere Road in Windsor Ontario after the big snow storm we had in 1965 - nothing compared to what is going on in Buffalo but we thought it was pretty bad.  Our neighbour across the street owned a bakery and his car was full of bread so they shared it with the neighbours.  We still walked to school but were sent home because not all the teachers could make it in.  I remember one teacher smashing his pointer down on a desk because they were sending everyone home.  It took a few days to dig out but what fun the kids had in all that snow.

Great memories of this neighbourhood...

A BIT OF ST PETE BEACH FUN

Just to let you know that ring cost $85,000!!!  The store clerk let us try it on - I don't know why - but it really wasn't my taste and it was the most expensive piece of jewellery I have ever had on anywhere on my body. That is Joanne trying it on in the picture.  Then there is a picture of Joanne and her new car - not really - just one we found in the parking lot - I made Joanne go over and pose beside it as if it were hers - as if anyone would believe that.  Then there is the flip flop wreath we spotted in a bathroom at a bar - I forget the name of the place.  Great idea!!

THE "KIDS'

It was a bad winter let year so the deer population is down considerably.  Not one of us got a doe tag this year which diminishes our chances of getting one quite a bit.  But it does have it's bright side.  We have been treated to a family of deer hanging around and eating all the pumpkins we have put out.  A doe and 2 fawns - just like last year - have been showing up regularly much to our enjoyment and Ed got a few pictures today of them.  And I must add that even last year when we had at least 4 doe tags among us, we didn't even consider taking the doe with the fawns.  When we first saw these fawns they still had their spots and they have grown up rather well.  We only see them on the trail cams and now at the pumpkins.  The mother will be there to teach them how to survive the winter so hopefully they will be around next year when they are … bigger!

The top picture is the view of the lake which is in the process of freezing over and it is only November 12th!!!!  A little too early for me.

A LONG RIDE HOME

I picked my travelling companion, Linda, up at about 8:15 and we were homeward bound by 8:45am.  All was well until we hit just before Gaylord and then it started to snow.  I don't think people were prepared or maybe they just forgot how to drive in the white stuff but there were about 4 serious accidents on I75 past Gaylord.  Fire engines, ambulances, tow trucks and lots of police cars.  Cars in the ditches and one where you knew he had rolled and blasted all the windows out on the car.  It was slow going and I was in no hurry so we just took our time.  But as soon as we crossed the Mackinac (?) Bridge, no snow whatsoever.  That is the second picture.  And then once we crossed over into Canada and on our way home on 17, it was sunny.  We did hit snow up 129 just at the Trading Post.
Made it home around 6 to a nice cold beer.

SHOPPING IS DONE

This is how the girls shop in Florida. "Borrow" a shopping cart from Walgreens and hit the liquor store first. $105 in no time flat. The owner even gave us a couple of freebies. Then the grocery store then the Dollar Store then home. Mission accomplished - until we run out of provisions. Lol
