THE SNAKE PIT

When we were in Listowel, a friend of Jack's took the group on a tour of a "garage" he had built for a client. To call it a garage is a disservice - it is a showroom for his 'Stangs!! You cannot eat, smoke or drink in this room - it is spotless. It houses 4-5 Mustangs and Cobra Jets - all just gleaming. I didn't go as Susan and I stayed behind to chat. But the rest of the group got some great pictures and told us all about it - and now I wish I had gone. There is a bar, pool table, bank board shuffleboard (my favourite) the washroom has a mustang grill over the sink with lights. The floor has the Mustang logo on it. He even has his own drag strip behind the building!!! Now that is niiiiice.
More pics later.

A VERY FRUITFUL EVENING OF FISHING

Sunday evening we decided to go out fishing on our lake - it has only been fished 2 times this year - once with Rick and he caught a pickerel and then when Troy was here for the afternoon. Troy did very well and so did we - we got 9 in total with 2 being small pickerel. But the rest were big bass!!! We put them right back into the lake for the next person to enjoy catching but boy was it fun. The one that I got at the far end of the lake gave me an excellent fight. It took a few minutes to get him in and he jumped!! It is the one in my picture - he was greener than the rest and he had the black stripes down his back - the others were more of a brownish color - it must be because he is feeding on something different. We have decided not to fish the lake for a few days and let the tourist catch the big ones. I remember a few years ago the kids were fishing with their toy dinosaur rods - I switched their fake lures with real ones and they caught the bass on their toy rods - they had a riot!!!

Rejean is out today with Ron and the guys stocking lakes in the area with trout and pickerel. And the hall is back in action!! Phyllis called yesterday and there is a chicken and fish fry on July 18th so if you are in the area....

I have to get back to work now - I am cleaning Stacey and Andrew's place for their arrival this weekend. Rick and Joan and Sierra and her sister are coming up on Monday so another full week.

Tis the season...

LAZY SUMMER DAYS

Let the grilling begin...hot dogs tonite
The Grilling Station

Susan gave me this sign and it looks perfect at the start of the Rusty Nail Trail

Another hot one today - we went in the "pool" for the first time. It was - how shall I put this - refreshing. Once you get in it was fine. We have noodles and they are perfect for floating around.

We put Rejean's latest project in place in the grilling station. It is made of oak finished in spar varnish with ceramic tiles on the top and bottom with a - wait for it - soft close drawer!! I hate to repeat myself but my kitchen doesn't even have those!! But it looks good and will serve it's purpose well. I want to do the same for the little table by Ricky's bbq - I just need 5 pieces of oak and clean up the stand and I'll be all set.
Tonite we are going out fishing in our lake for some pickerel - if you get one you can keep it. Dinner tomorrow nite I hope.

ps - Happy Birthday Jodie - we will celebrate when she is up here next week. Tofu lasagna???

THIS IS IT

No it is not a Michael Jackson tribute but just to let you know that I have decided to keep this blog background - I have had feedback that it is better and easier to read - I may tweak the color of the lettering but I will keep the background....at least for a while....it is my prerogative to change it if I want. ;o)

WILDLIFE

There is a fox den right beside the highway and today I finally got a picture of one of the babies. I have seen them before but never had my camera ready but today I did. I got one just inside the mouth of one of the holes.
Yesterday I had seen 2 of them lying down outside of the holes - just relaxing in the sun. I also got a couple of photos of the Sandhill Cranes in a pasture. They are causing a lot of destruction in the farmer's fields - I guess flocks of them converge on a field and just feast on the crop.
It was a beautiful day here today and we took advantage of it. Hope it was nice where you were.

CAN YOU FREEZE TOFU???

Jodie is a vegetarian and she will be coming up with Stacey, Andrew and David. I was in the Sault today so I got some "food" for her. Some fake hamburgers, hot dogs and some tofu so she can make something. She fixed us tofu once and it was not bad but I am a carnivore and I like meat. I am sure she won't starve - there is other stuff that she will eat like salads, pasta (she won't eat eggs either) veggies and fruits. I can send her off to graze in the bush as the raspberries should be out by them. Only joking Jodie - I will make sure you have enough to eat. Can't wait for them to get here. David has never been up here before so it is always fun to show newbies around. We'll get him out on the lake for some fishing. Jodie is training for a half marathon so that will keep her occupied. Stacey usually addresses her Christmas cards up here and Andrew will be in the boat with David and Rejean. And I'll be snapping pictures and documenting their visit.

BACK TO NORMAL - AGAIN

I saw the 3 otters in the lake this morning - they looked at me and then went on about their business - cute things. We also now know that the small beaver we saw the other night was, in fact, a muskrat. We saw him up close last nite and his tail was straight out of the water while he was eating some water things.
We went fishing today on the river and it really wasn't a good day. I had 2 on but lost them - Rejean had a sucker on and Rick found an anchor.
Pizza tonite - home made - yum yum. And tomorrow I head to the Sault for some stuff including a new propeller for the trolling motor which kind of was destroyed yesterday - details at another time.
It is nice to be back to normal.
