THE LEAVES ARE CHANGING FAST

How time does fly. The leaves have been changing since July. And right now they are just starting to get good. Not as brilliant as last year but maybe because we haven't seen the sun in a few days. But the colors are starting. Reds, yellows and oranges mostly. But every now and then you come across a stunning specimen that takes your breath away. I love this time of year - it is my favourite. The days are crisp and the nights are cold. The Canada geese are starting to fly in their formations. Leaves are starting to fall. My little fox has been coming around in the mornings - just sitting there waiting or sleeping until he notices movement - sometimes the ravens make such a racket because he is there - he usually just ignores them. Everyone wants to be fed.

SIGHTING THE GUNS AND CROSS BOW

Me!!
Rejean and Ron setting up the targets.

Ron taking aim with his crossbow

Ron's Baby - nice outfit!!

We had talked about going to the gravel pit and sighting the guns before hunting season starts - and Ron stopped by and suggested we do it today. We packed the 30 odd 6, the 22 and my bow and arrow and the "Black Hole" (it is a target especially for arrows). Ron had his 30 odd 6 and his crossbow. There is a gravel pit down the road that has banks so you are not shooting into the bush. We set up our targets on an old wooden door that has been used many times before. We started with Rejean's 30 odd 6 - it was shooting high and to the left - we don't know whether it was the gun or Rejean. I have never shot the 30 odd 6 because it is too powerful but I do enjoy the 22. And I liked the crossbow. My shot hit the target from 40 yards. And I did good with the 22 - my shots were all within 2 inches of the bulls eye - not bad for Tremor Girl!!

BELIEVE IT....OR NOT

Remember that TV show that had weird things happen on it - hard to believe things? Well, this really happened.....

Rejean has had a sore on his finger that has not healed after 3 weeks and it looks inflamed and - well I won't go into a lot of detail about it but it was sore and looked sore. But, being a man, he kept saying that it was getting better. I gave him until Thursday of this week for it to heal or he was going to the doctors. Well, long story short, we ended up going to the Thessalon Hospital Emergency room. Well, he walked in and was immediately greeted by the nurse at the desk. He was shown into the exam room after he had answered a couple of questions, the doctor was in to see him in 5 minutes, examined his finger, wrote a prescription for some antibiotics and we were on our way - in about 20 minutes!!! How's that for service!!! Not bad for a hospital in a town of 1400. And we had just signed up to switch from our former doctor to the new doctor in town who happened to be the doctor who treated Rejean at the hospital!! And the hospital is part of the Algoma Manor, the area retirement home. They are also under construction for a multi-million dollar addition. So when the time comes for me to go into the old folks home, it is right in town. Right beside the hospital - how convenient...

GETTING READY FOR WINTER

I chopped this...
...into this - and didn't loose a digit!!

Yesterday afternoon I stocked the kindling box and put wood in the wood drawer and trays at each wood stove - we already had a fire yesterday morning - yes boys and girls, it is that time of year again - and we are ready - we just finished cleaning out the stove pipes and chimneys.
And the leaves are changing fast.

A PERFECT PARTY DAY

The ever smiling, gracious co-hostess, Barbara-Anne
Our entertainment for the evening - that's Bob in the background listening

Some of the crowd on the lower level

The beach at LimberLost The 3 Grillers - Rejean, some man we got to volunteer, and Ron - they did a fine job

Some arrived by Pontoon Boat!! - I want that other floatie - it has drink cup holders, seats and a net bottom so you can see under the floatie - it's called a Relaxation Station - I like the name...

I don't know what Ute did, but the weather on her party day turned out to be perfect - a bit breezy at first but then excellent. The sun was out and big white clouds were in the sky and it was about 17 degrees = 64ish. Rejean and I arrived on our 4 wheelers - there were 50 people expected so I thought parking may be a problem. I was also transporting devilled eggs - so I had to take it slow. Others arrived by boat - some even in a pontoon boat. There were people from all over the lake and all over the area up here. People who have done work for her, guests staying at the camp this week, neighbours and friends. She had 3 bbqs set up to accommodate all the grilling to be going on. It was pot luck (as everything is up here) and people out did themselves - the food was delicious - there was even pies for desert. There was entertainment!!! It was the husband of one of the guest's daughters. He sings all over the place and he
entertained us with some great songs - he sounded real good. After dinner we got a fire going over in the fire pit and just laughed and talked until it was time to go home.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A WEEK MAKES

Just to let you know...we cleaned out the chimneys and stove pipes just in time. We were at Linda's last night and she had a fire going and guess where I sat - until I got a flash and had to strip and move my chair back. Oh, to be able to harness those. We are all set if Rejean decides to start one of his own. But it is chilly up here. And one week ago it was over 90 degrees. And for the past few days, gloomy and rainy but we need it so I won't complain.
This afternoon we are invited to Ute's for a party - my life is so boring - and there will be about 50 people - the weather is calling for partly cloudy with a high of 16 so we will be bundling up - gloves maybe - and hopefully Ute will have a bon fire going. As usual, I will be making my devilled eggs - hey, it's my signature dish. There will be lots of locals, and some favourite guests of hers - remember Barbara-Anne the chef and her friend Bonnie? Should be a lot of fun. I'll take some pictures ;o)
