ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL DAY SPENT ON THE RIVER

Rejean showing the newby, David, the ropes
Andrew - he knows what he is doing

Sadie and Jodie - Sadie is smiling because she is happy to be with us

Jodie and Sadie cooling off

The guys were going to the river to fish - Jodie, Sadie and I went on ahead and played in the river - Stacey stayed behind to do her workout. It was absolutely beautiful today - a nice breeze saved us from roasting in the sun. And the river water was very refreshing. A truck going by on the highway blew a tire and it was like a gun shot - the sound reflecting off the rocks - they were there for about an hour and then were on their way. The guys didn't catch a thing but for Dave it was his first time river fishing and he loved it. I am sure he will be purchasing chest waders, a fishing vest, and a 11 foot rod as soon as he returns to Calgary.

Sadie was busy getting all the sticks out of the river. Her poor little feet took a beating and she can hardly walk right now.

All in all it was another great day - Jodie and I went in the kayaks when we got home. Very relaxing.

Tomorrow another day of fishing on the Little White.

See ya Bye

A BEAUTIFUL FIRST DAY IN

After being held up at the US border for over an hour (Dave has a duel citizenship - Canadian/British) the kids were finally on their way by 8pm on Friday nite - they called and said they may get a motel on the way. I woke up at 6:30am and there was their truck - I went out to feed the ravens and there was Sadie coming down the Rusty Nail Trail to greet me - they were up!! They got in at 4:30 am and were drinking - 19 beers and 4 Smirnoff Ice between the 4 of them!! And I was offering coffee - what was I thinking! After a two hour sleep they were up and at 'em. Andrew had some work to do but the rest of us were just enjoying the nice weather - they went for kayak rides and then just relaxed in the sun. Sadie had been shaved so even she was enjoying herself - but we couldn't get her to go for a swim - apparently her other Grandma- Mary-Lou - takes her to a beach where she can just walk in the water whereas here she has to slip down some rocks - spoiled!!

After dinner we went for a booze cruise - the girls watched & recorded the event and the guys fished. It looks like we have another fishing rivelry going on between Andrew and Dave - the original rivalry was between Mitch and Jack but this one will rival that one. Dave got the first fish - a pickerel keeper - and by the end of the evening it was a tie - as any good competition should end. When the tie breaker will be is anyone's guess.

Today is supposed to be just as nice - Jodie is going to get in a 3 mile run, I will walk it and Stacey may try to run (she has an injury from her ultras) and then we will just let the day take us where it wants to.

Hope your weekend was good...

See Ya Bye
ps - this just in - the guys are going to the river and the girls will accompany them to watch and record - a nice day trip.

PIZZA, PIES AND FOXES

Our Fox
Lisa and one of her prize pizzas - yum yum

The Pie Ladies and our ware.

We sort of invited ourselves over to John and Lisa's place this week - they were over and talking about how she makes her pizza dough in the food processor - I have always made mine in the bread maker - so we set a dinner date to watch the process. Well I must say it is a much easier process so I will now make mine in the food processor. It was a nice thin crust and very good - altho I do enjoy a thicker crust every now and then.

Today I was working at the Hall again. 30 pies and 12 shells - there were the four of us, Phyllis, Cheryle, Vickie and myself. I made the raisin pie filling - from scratch. They turned out very good - altho I had to add a bit more water to get more juice. They are for the Chicken and Fish Fry at the Wharncliff Hall on July 18th, 2010 - so if you are in the neighbourhood...

And the fox came around this evening - without the ravens yelling at them - it was a nice quiet meal for him (or her). We have to throw the hotdogs to him - he won't come too close - very skittish - the wind moving the awning on the trailer scared him away. But he had his fill.

The "kids" are coming in tonite - about 2am. We won't be waiting up for them. I stocked their fridge with cold beer and coolers so they can have a cold one after their long trip up. They are bringing Sadie up as well - Stacey had her shaved so I can't wait to see her. She is a Golden Retriever so you get the picture. It will be nice having everyone up - Stacey, Andrew, Jodie and Dave - our first time meeting him - everyone else has met him but us. Can't wait.

I am having problems with posting pictures - I haven't a clue why but sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't - kind of like a lot of things...

THE SNAKE PIT

When we were in Listowel, a friend of Jack's took the group on a tour of a "garage" he had built for a client. To call it a garage is a disservice - it is a showroom for his 'Stangs!! You cannot eat, smoke or drink in this room - it is spotless. It houses 4-5 Mustangs and Cobra Jets - all just gleaming. I didn't go as Susan and I stayed behind to chat. But the rest of the group got some great pictures and told us all about it - and now I wish I had gone. There is a bar, pool table, bank board shuffleboard (my favourite) the washroom has a mustang grill over the sink with lights. The floor has the Mustang logo on it. He even has his own drag strip behind the building!!! Now that is niiiiice.
More pics later.

A VERY FRUITFUL EVENING OF FISHING

Sunday evening we decided to go out fishing on our lake - it has only been fished 2 times this year - once with Rick and he caught a pickerel and then when Troy was here for the afternoon. Troy did very well and so did we - we got 9 in total with 2 being small pickerel. But the rest were big bass!!! We put them right back into the lake for the next person to enjoy catching but boy was it fun. The one that I got at the far end of the lake gave me an excellent fight. It took a few minutes to get him in and he jumped!! It is the one in my picture - he was greener than the rest and he had the black stripes down his back - the others were more of a brownish color - it must be because he is feeding on something different. We have decided not to fish the lake for a few days and let the tourist catch the big ones. I remember a few years ago the kids were fishing with their toy dinosaur rods - I switched their fake lures with real ones and they caught the bass on their toy rods - they had a riot!!!

Rejean is out today with Ron and the guys stocking lakes in the area with trout and pickerel. And the hall is back in action!! Phyllis called yesterday and there is a chicken and fish fry on July 18th so if you are in the area....

I have to get back to work now - I am cleaning Stacey and Andrew's place for their arrival this weekend. Rick and Joan and Sierra and her sister are coming up on Monday so another full week.

Tis the season...

LAZY SUMMER DAYS

Let the grilling begin...hot dogs tonite
The Grilling Station

Susan gave me this sign and it looks perfect at the start of the Rusty Nail Trail

Another hot one today - we went in the "pool" for the first time. It was - how shall I put this - refreshing. Once you get in it was fine. We have noodles and they are perfect for floating around.

We put Rejean's latest project in place in the grilling station. It is made of oak finished in spar varnish with ceramic tiles on the top and bottom with a - wait for it - soft close drawer!! I hate to repeat myself but my kitchen doesn't even have those!! But it looks good and will serve it's purpose well. I want to do the same for the little table by Ricky's bbq - I just need 5 pieces of oak and clean up the stand and I'll be all set.
Tonite we are going out fishing in our lake for some pickerel - if you get one you can keep it. Dinner tomorrow nite I hope.
See Ya Bye
ps - Happy Birthday Jodie - we will celebrate when she is up here next week. Tofu lasagna???
