ALWAYS SOMETHING TO DO

Ed and I were on wood splitting duty (will that pile ever go down?) and Barry and Rejean were working on the corduroy road leading to the new blind.  It got to the point where they needed some dirt from our huge pile by the road and required the tractor to load the trailer.  Ed was in charge of the tractor and, altho it took a few tries, he soon had it mastered.  Barry transported the dirt to the trail, in the little trailer he hauled behind his quad, where Rejean and I were spreading it over the wet spots and holes to smooth it out.  We timed it just right because as soon as we were finished, it started raining again.  We were lucky!!!
Those guys sure know how to work!!!

MASTERCHEF CHENEY

Inspired by last nite's episode of MasterChef Canada and Cody's crepes, Ed took over my kitchen this morning and made crepes - scrambled eggs and bacon crepes and desert crepes.  I am not one for crepes but the eggs and bacon ones were delicious but I passed on the desert ones but everyone else enjoyed them.  Ed took a bit longer than Cody's 60 minute creation but talent takes time.  I told Ed he was creating a dangerous precedent - that we would now expect him to make crepes at least one morning from now on when he visits.  And Barry and Ed still washed the dishes for me.  I like when they come to visit...

FUN DAY

I declared today a no work day and we had fun instead.  We got the quads out and went to check out an area fishing spot - we took the chain saw and it is a good thing we did as there was a tree down that needed some attention to get by.  I took pictures while the guys cleared the trail. Take a look at that big burl on birch tree in the second picture - I know someone who would like a piece of that burl.  We checked out the jacuzzi and it was roaring.  It should calm down by summer for us.
Sandy always makes a delicious lasagna and that is what is for dinner tonite - and tomorrow and maybe the next night.  I swear it weighs 10 pounds...

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

I think about her everyday and miss her very much.
She would have found great joy in Charlie and Monty and Bishop and Raiden and Camryn and Colton and little Aubrey - her great grandchildren.

TOO LATE FOR DINNER

I was downstairs to tidy up in case we had company for the Montreal game tonite and just happened to look out the window to see this guy wandering around - probably smelled our BBQ where we had just cooked some burgers.  I yelled for the guys upstairs and by the time I got my camera these were the only shots I could get and the last one is him walking across the beaver dam to the other side of the bay.  He was a lot closer - even almost on the cement - I got him walking away after he heard us.  It could be Slick - the bear that is wandering around the area - he has been spotted at a couple of camps and is becoming a bother.  But this one seemed to not want to stick around once he heard us.  Good thing - it may one day save his life.  He was a nice healthy looking bear with a beautiful brown snout and clear eyes.  Nice to see him.  Glad I was in the house….

TIME TO WORK

The guys are here - Barry and Ed and they want to work.  Today we transferred some wood from the other property to my wood shed and they would not stop until it was done.  Saved us a ton of work.  We had a chain going - Barry handed the wood to me from the trailer,  then I handed it to Ed who handed it off to Rejean who was stacking it in the wood shed.  Made quick work of a tedious job.  And it is nice to see the wood shed 90% full.  Thanks guys!!!  Tomorrow - trails!!

The top picture is of a hawk that was out back this morning - my camera took this picture thru the screen so it is not as clear as I would have wanted it.  He looked around for about 5 minutes then swooped down next to the stream and probably got a frog or mouse.  Neat to see!!

SURPRISE!!

They managed to pull off a surprise 70th birthday party for John yesterday - the festivities were held at Randy and Robin's and it could not have been a better day - sunny and, for up here on May 1st, warm. And as an added surprise, John's son from Windsor and his wife and son surprised them by coming as well.  The food was plentiful - potluck of course.  There were hamburgers, hotdogs, sausages, salads, devilled eggs (!) and a birthday cake with John's favourite team logo on it.
The bugs came out a little later in the evening but sitting by a nice warm fire kept them at bay.
Everyone had a great time - especially John.
